Question Remote start/keyless entry

I have an 01 Sport and want to install a remote start/keyless entry system. I don't need anything fancy just a basic system.
The last one I installed was in a Lincoln Mark VIII and that was a day and half job.
So far I've seen a Bully Dog system that fits the bill and wiring it in doesn't seem to bad.
Any thoughts, experiences or brand suggestions would be appreciated before I jump into the project.
Thanks, Ang.

I bought a cheap RKE off of fleabay. That was easy enough and has been working fine since. I already had power windows and locks. The hard part was getting to the wiring at the drivers sidekick panel.

I have never installed a remote start, so I cannot help you with that part.

Power windows and locks in mine as well. I would have thought the kick panel wiring would be easy to access.
What is "RKE"?

Remote
Keyless
Entry

The plug is behind the kick panel but inside the interior and exterior "shells" of the body. There is very little slack in there...

Got ya, when I take it apart I'll see, I wonder if it would be easier to get at it in the door or maybe follow the wiring back towards the dash?? As much as I'd enjoy having the remote start now in New England I'll be working in the drive way so playing with wiring when you can't feel your finger tips isn't fun.

Going through the door is probably easier, until...

You remember that you will need to fish, at least, 2 wires back through the rubber snorkel/grommet/thingey to go to your new module. That said, I don't know how much room there might be, maybe it would be real easy.

IIRC, I toyed with the idea of tracing the wires to somewhere else, to tap into them. In the end, as you know, I went to the kick panel.

You should be able to do the RKE, then wait for the start until spring.

I'd probably end up back to the kick as well. But the door might work because I could change the speakers at the same time.

IV got a bulldog in my 99 and it works well. I didn't install it but it looks right under the steering column!

I found some nice wiring diagrams on line for the truck with pictures showing where the harnesses are and which wire in the harness that's needed.
One thing I'm wondering about is it shows door lock/un-lock wiring in the kick panel and also shows driver and passenger door trigger wires in a module to the right of the steering column. Any one know what the difference is between the two?
