Default Having trouble identifying my torque converter

I need to identify my torque converter on my 1996 dodge ram 1500/5.9 engine. I have a 46RE tranny. Trying to remove torque converter but it's being a Bi***. If I could identify it I could at least order the part. Any ideas

Locking torque converter for a 46RE. Why are you replacing it?

Welcome to DF!

Its a locking. I'm leaking tranny fluid from it. About a year ago reverse went out. I assumed the tranny was going but there is no other gear slipping and I have been driving it for a year like this. A few nights ago I was driving home and all the sudden it felt like my tranny was going out. Wasn't shifting into higher gears. I checked out the truck and noticed I was leaking tranny fluid worse then usual. I toped it off and suddenly tranny worked fine. By the time I got it home it was complete out of fluid again.

Are you wondering which stall RPM? IIRC, stock is 1800.

I need to know what the code is like A 727 or A 904. These code are associated with the number of teeth it has. I was told I can fine thus code on the power output cover. I have had no luck locating that either

A518, or, 46RE.

It is highly unlikely that the converter itself is leaking. The seal there is the culprit 99.99% of the time. You *might* be able to get away with just changing the seal, but, the trans still needs to come out for that exercise.

Might be profitable to pull the pan, and see if you find anything untoward in there, while you are playin' with it.

Might be as easy as a band strut falling out. Of course, it might be something broken too..... won't know until you look.
