Angry Broken Rear Suspension

1999 Dodge Ram 2500 V10 Gas

We were getting gravel, on the way home we heard a 'POP'

Here is a picture of the broken part, can you name it?

Yes, its the sway bar end link. Give 'em your truck info and parts stores should have it. Must have been cornering hard? That's what the sway bar is there to do: keep the truck planted in a turn. Came on HDs in the rear. All front ends have them. Technically, the sway bar is an "anti-sway bar" and those end links (what you broke) transfer the torque from axle to frame.

No hard turns, was hauling 3800 pounds of gravel in the bed

That'll do it, too. Unless you drove the trip in a perfect straight line, that much payload will lean hard around any turn, no matter how nice you drive. Plus, end links are pretty cheap and don't last long anyway.
