Strange whining and or tapping

Default Strange whining and or tapping
had a strange noise start this evening. Either a whining or tapping, crawled underneath, differential fluid is a little thin and a u joint on the rear driveshaft has some play in it. would those 2 things cause that type of noise. My truck is a 1996 Ram1500 4x4

Change the fluid and joint, see if the noise goes away. U-joints can make some truly interesting noises when they go bad.....
