Default PATC Converters

So Im going to drop the engine back in and want to do the converter before then. How reputable is PATC. I have been searching for info on the stock stall speed for the Ram and cant find it. PATC says about 1800-2000 is factory and I should go 2500 Stall based on my cam. I have the 20-745-9 cam. 212 int. 218 exh. / .497 .497 lift, 114LSA. Im not hauling or towing with the truck, it may tow my boat 3mi to the lake but the boats light and that would be sporadically. There recommendation is the 6D converter. Thanks

What's the RPM range for the cam?

PATC is a highly regarded company. You can trust them.

Comps website says 1000-5000rpm. PATC initially told me 2800, then we came up with 2400. This being based on the stock stall of around 1900. I called 4 places and a different answer from them all.

1. hughes performance transmissions (not engines) said 1800

2. suncoast said around 2000

3. acc performance (boss hog) said 2300

It's a truck....... Basically, you want to the t/c to reach stall before the engine reaches peak torque. You have a short cam, so, that's gonna be pretty low. Think I would be tempted to hit it in the middle, and go for around 2000. That's only going to be a ballpark figure on the t/c in any event, as there are many variables that can change stall speed.....

I have 33" tires and 4:10 gears. I know that plays a part. I initially didnt think any higher than 2200. Would be great to nail this on the first attempt but I can see I might as well put threaded rod & wing nuts in place of the tranny bolts

If there is an offroad shop nearby, or, within spittin' distance, I would call and have a chat with them. Let 'em know what ya got, and see what they recommend. Think I would trust their opinion on what works, and what don't.

PATC is a good outfit and the 6D is a fine converter. I've got but six years and 30,000 miles on my Mega Viper so far so I can't speak to the long term reliability of it yet, but it's given me no trouble at all and as outfitted it seems the perfect unit for the application.

That cam will be making good power in either the 5.9 or the 5.2 by the time the converter reaches stock stall speed. If you're neither drag racing nor hauling heavy, stock speed is going to be just fine for you.

Thank you, only thing is I have no Idea what stock stall is on the 5.9. I wound up going with Precision Converters high stall heavy duty. Its a converter with billet housing and upgraded parts and allison flange. Its a 1600-1700 rpm stall from what I understand. Even though my cam is 1000-5000, my thinking is with the 1 3/4" long tube headers and Mopar MPI 2bbl manifold, it may not come on as early as I think. I hope
