Default Fuel Tank Skid Plate Bolts

Does anyone know what size or where to get the bolts that hold the skid plate under the gas tank to the frame on my 01 Ram? It's a pretty course thread. I called the dealer thinking they'd be the best place, but they are telling me that they are discontinued. I had two of them break off when trying to remove them.

Do you have one out already? Does it come to a rounded point, kind of? If so, it's a self-tapping style.

If you do the junkyard thing just wait till the next time you go and grab one. That's a "throw in the pocket" type of thing and the skid ain't going anywhere with 2 bolts holding it in the mean time. Or just hit up a bolts store any no doubt they can find something with the right thread

I can try to take one out of mine, to check the size, tomorrow. If the wait is okay.

You have a skid plate???

I'm trying to help you out but only have a heat shield and the tank straps.

Are we about the same things?

I do have a skid plate (in addition to the tank straps and head shield). Mine is the "Offroad Edition" so I'm wondering if maybe it was an add on for that. I'm thinking I may have to take his oxymoron's advice and try to find these at a junk yard next time I'm there. I don't go often, but I could use a few other things so maybe it's time for a trip. I tried to run the good one I have through a die to figure out the size, but it doesn't fit well in anything I have. It's very coarse threads and it starts off small and gets bigger. I'm not sure that it would need to though.

Bummer, sorry that I couldn't help. May be a tad tough finding an ORE in the boneyard though.

After looking some more it seems like it's using the same bolts to hold in the plastic clips that hold the fuel and brake line on the frame rail. So I'm thinking that bolt may be the same on non ORE models and I can pull the two. At least I'm hoping.

The dealer gave me the part #, but says they are discontinued. I found one on eBay, but he only has one and the shipping is more than the bolt. I hate to pay $12 for one when I need two, and his picture doesn't look like the correct one. I'm not sure if his isn't the correct part number it's listed as or if the dealer gave me the part # for another bolt.

Can you post up a pic of the bolt (broken part or one still on the truck)?
Maybe look for another bolt going into the frame with the same size head to compare to (one that may come out easier)?

I'm fairly certain the bolt is M10x1.5. Been awhile since looking at mine as I destroyed the ORE fuel tank skid and put in a steel one.

Edit: that's for the straps.

I'll look again. I may have them still. Your location? Send me a PM if you like.
