Default 20-604-9 cam questions

Hi I'm new to the forum. Has anyone used the comp cams 20-604-9? I have a 1996 ram with 318/5spd and need to know if it will need a tune to run back and forth to work. also looking for valve spring part numbers, pushrod part numbers and if you like this cam in your 318 thank you for any help!

Yes, it will require computer modification. (4-600 bucks for that, gonna need a custom tune)

For the additional parts, have a chat with comp cams, they can make the best recommendations, and be reasonably assured it will work properly.

You are going to be into this project for probably around 1000 bucks, when all is said and done though....

As an alternative, you might consider just installing some 1.7 Ratio Harland Sharp roller rockers. They are a direct bolt on, with no other modifications necessary. (may need to remove the baffles from the valve covers though.....)

Will it still start and drive for a few days before I get it tuned? Or should I wait and get a base tune before I put it in? Planning on a few other mods to. I have crane rocker studs, lunati 1.6 roller rockers, the red injectors from a 360, and a windage tray. Plan on picking up a set of headers, and maybe an m1 or Hughes intake to replace my modded kegger. Any suggestions? Looking for a mild daily driver. 350-375 HP would be great.

I think both V-8's use the same injectors? Not 100% on that though.

Are your rockers adjustable? That makes life easier.

It *might* run on the stock tune, but, I think I would have something prepared before driving it much.

Still gonna need valve springs and such.

thanks for the help! I'll just get a tune before I swap the engine, the stock mill is pushing 205k and yes my rockers are adjustable . I think I read somewhere that the red 360 injectors flow more, but I don't know if its true or not.

Yup... to the best of my knowledge, the 5.2 & 5.9 both use the same stock injector.
The part # might have changed over the years (?), but the same one is used for both.
