Default Shifting problems

my 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.9 magnum 4x4 has transmission issues and anyone with advice is welcome to chime in. It currently does not shift into second gear until I reach about 2100 RPM then for me to get to third I have to reach about 40mph and let off and then eventually it shifts. Sometimes overdrive kicks in but it's very randomly any advice helps thanks also if it matters it's a extended cab short bed

Start with a fluid/filter change, and a band adjustment. (installing a drain plug in the pan at this point, really wouldn't be a bad idea. ) Also check TV cable, makes sure it moves freely, and is adjusted properly.

Welcome to DF!

Grab the service manual for your truck from here. Procedure for band adjustment is in there.
