Holy crap, that's a cruise. Given the lovely (lack of) fuel economy on my truck, paying for body work might be cheaper.

LOLOL. What a bitter pill to swallow.

Much as I would love to, I don't see having the funding for that kind of trip anytime soon.

Wow, your compression numbers are wonky. Dry or wet?

The cracks b/t each valve will become a problem. The CEL codes for misfire will happen. It's just a matter of "when".

Too risky imo, but at least get to see how yours shakes out!

I took it on a test drive this morning.. About 10 miles and put fuel in it while it idled and came home.
Checked the oil and its still very clean. I used brake cleaner nozzle to spray up in the oil pan and I let it drain using a wick... cause if you dont there is a nut welded on the inside of pan that will not let all the bad stuff come out.. the wick got out about a pint more of that bad oil and such.
I forgot how smooth a ride these trucks had..
AC was cold and the tunes sounded great... Cruise worked and the seat might need some work.. the back head rest is a little short for it to work in a rear crash on me.
Other than a squeaking cup holder, everything was smooth..

I only bought the truck for the engine and trans .... I dont think I can let myself take it apart now..

The 180 stat was at first thought to actually improve engine cooling. It doesn't really. Having the correct amount of properly mixed coolant is far more effective. The colder stat will actually hurt, as the PCM attempts to take steps to get the engine up to the temp it thinks it should be. On the newer trucks, mainly 98 and up, the PCM will eventually become offended that the engine never gets up to the temp it thinks it should.

My truck is a 3/4 ton, with larger, heavier tires than stock. It rides like there isn't any suspension at all...... "Harsh" is far too mild a term for it. To the point that the harsh ride is a highly effective speed limiter on the lunar landscapes that laughably pass for roads here. There is a price to be paid for living a quiet country life, and dirt roads that look for all the world like they experienced an artillery barrage, is one of them.
