Default New Transmission Problem

Hi, I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9 360. I just put a new transmission from O'reillys in. Sometimes it will go into gear and sometimes it won't. You can rev it way up and it will kick in, but it's like its bogged down. I put a new idle speed sensor in too. If anyone has any ideas what it could be it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would assume the trans comes with a warranty? Who did the installation? Think I would be having a chat with them.....

Welcome to DF!

Also a new torque converter? Linkage adjusted correctly?

It's time for HeyYou to chime in about pulling the 8-pin plug on the trans, see if you have manual control (absolutely NO automatic functions, manually shift into all gears).

Thanks for replying. Yes it has a new torque converter, and I'm not sure, how do you adjust the linkage? Once it goes in gear, it will shift ok until I stop and then it won't kick in again.

Won't kick in again??

On the drivers side of the trans, about halfway back, is an eight pin connector. Disconnect it. Take the truck for a ride, as mentioned the trans won't do anything without being told. So, start in first, shift when you need to. (downshift when you need to as well....) You won't have O/D, so just take it slow and easy.

Does the trans go into the gear you tell it to, when you tell it to?

This should be stickied and flagged as the first thing to do to troubleshoot your automatic trans...

Just sayin'...
