Hello everyone,
My 1997, ram 1500 360 gas, auto trans 4x4 truck speedo worked yesterday, I pulled some stumps out last night ( 4x4 used) then this morning in the way to work, the speedo does not work?????!
Any ideas on what yo look for??

Drove out into a field to get to those stumps? Check your wiring to the speed sensor on the transfer case. Maybe you pull some wiring loose.

 

Well the plug connector IS still plugged in, the wires as far as I can see, till I get in deeper are ok, but I will further checkout tomorrow, not enough time tonight.
Guess I'll break out the test light and check fuses too.

Is the check engine lite on as well? ABS lite??

 

I unplugged, then replugged wire connection at tail housing on transfer case, the damn speedo NOW WORKS again!! I'm glad, but equally frustrated because I don't know WHAT the problem really was. A poor conection?
yes the check engine light has come on a few times (between state inspection times luckily!!!!) But gone off on its own after the required number of cycles
The codes were P1797 Neutral Switch Circuit Malfunction
and the other was an evap related ed probably due to the few rust holes in my filler neck.
But knock on wood currently all things are good!!
