97 46re in a Ram 1500 Laramie

Trans problems (of course). Had a slipping problem and changed out the governor solenoid and switch. Ran great for about a month with a few hiccups. A little stutter here and there and some slight slipping. But the other day as I was cruising around, my rpm's went way up and I wasnt going any faster. Pulled over, checked fluid level and under the truck for possible leaks, nothing. Tried selecting all of the gears, nothing. Turned it off and was figuring a good way to blow it up without causing a forest fire, but I finally calmed down. Started it up, selected a gear, and off I went for about 500 yards. Pulled over, shut off, restarted, and off I went. Happpened out 5 or 6 times before I coasted into my driveway. After research the code PO740 (I think) I have determined that it is possibly the TCC and Overdrive solenoids. After looking at Youtube, I watched a vid about this problem and the guy was saying that it could be a broken part on top of the valve body some plate with a spring/plunger in it (can't find the vid again so the name of the parts is beyond me) Any input would be greatly appreciated. I;m contemplating dropping a chevy 327 and a 700 tranny in there but cab't find a adapter assy for the transfer case ... HELP..

p.s. After researching in this section I tried the "disconnect the 8 pin connector" and the tranny still slips. When in reverse and in neutral, I hear a metalic, squeel (can't really put it into words) type of noise. Hope this helps. Shooting from the hip - it sounds like a pump of solenoid problem. Thats why I'm here, to learn.

Will the pump make weird noises if the TCC Solenoid isnt working properly and still slip with the 8 pin connector disconnected??

All the electronics in the trans are disabled by unplugging that connector. If the trans still exhibits undesirable behavior, it's a mechanical problem. It *might* be just s dropped band anchor, or something equally as simple. Need to drop the pan to find out though.

Bad anchor? Can I see it without fully removing the valve body? Like just loosen it up and tilt it out of the way?

Yeah, they usually just fall out, and you'll find it in the bottom of the pan.
