Default clicking when starting - not battery

I have a 99 Ram 4x4 w 360. Has a NEW battery and I cleaned terminals. I don't drive all the time so I disconnect battery when not driving. Sometimes when I go to start It will click several times (sounds like in dash) then when I try again it acts dead. I will have to take off terminals and try again. sometimes it starts right up, sometimes takes 2-3 times of this procedure. When it does start it cranks fast and fires immediately as though no problem whatsoever, again battery and starter seem fine. Do these trucks have some anti theft or electrical item that could be causing this to occur? any help appreciated, and thanks.

I just replaced the contacts in my starter solenoid, and that fixed the issue for me.
