Default Trans swap question

I have a 2000 1500 4x4 with a 5.2. Trans is trashed. Kids at 18 smh. Friend has a 99 2500 4x4 with 5.2, i think, its 5.2 or 5.9 for sure. Need to look closer when i get back by there. Have limited time to do the swap. Heard there might be a flex plate difference in the 2. Just needing to know if i should grab the flex plate off his or if they are the same. And what other possible differences could there be. Just trying to get everything so i dont have surprises next weekend.

You want to use the flexplate that is already on your motor. The 5.9 is externally balanced, and the weight is on the flexplate..... Don't use that on a 5.2.

Also, there are differences in electronics from 99 to 00. You will need to replace the governor pressure sensor, and solenoid, with the correct version for your year truck. (that the trans is going into.)

Aside from that, it should bolt right in, and hook right up. Before getting it all together though, I would verify the torque converter bolt pattern. Just to be sure. (probably wouldn't hurt to change the seal there either..... never going to get any easier.)

Was planning on replacing both front and rear seals, even though it is just a temporary fix so its drivable. Thx for the info on the electronics. I never thought about those.

That's a good plan.

Have fun with it.
