There was know wiring needed when installling the light it just plugged right into the stock connector
Yes, something is wired up wrong. Yours is a 2001, maybe you got a unit for 97 or below. Between 97 and 98, the wiring changed from switching the positive power to switching the ground. Maybe your problem???

oh ok so ignore I pretty much just swap the ground to the positive and the positive to the ground that should fix the issue ?
Nope , they still stay on when the headlight switch is off
Just to be sure you are turning the **** to shut off the cargo light not the headlights correct? Switching the wires will reverse polarity and may blow the fuse. Led's usually have diodes in them to protect from reverse polarity(if not they will blow). I would contact who ever you got it from.
Put the old light back in to see what happens. You may need to add a resistor. LED lights can light with such little current, that any type of voltage drop may activate them.

What you have to do is cut the two cargo light wires and solder then to the opposite color I went through this. So let's say (colors vary this is an example) you have a yellow and red wire for the cargo lights, cut both of them, and solder yellow to red and red to telling and that will fix your problem.
