4.10 vs 4.56 explanation please

I just finished my 4.56 gear install and am currently running 33's. I filled up today and reset my trip meter. We'll be humming around tonight so ill update in a few days what I average. Not sure what it'll be worth though since I have a fairly heavy foot lol

Yes, I was waiting till I used about a 1/2 tank of fuel to get an average and I filled up this morning on my way to work. i love these gears!
Overall drive ability is so much better than with the 3.55 gears. Take off and cruising requires very little throttle input. With the old gears I was constantly struggling to maintain 70-75mph on the highway with any slight breeze. The trans was constantly having to shift back and fourth between 3rd and 4th. Now 70-75 is no problem, even with wind. With 3.55 gears I averaged 10.5 if I did any considerable highway driving and 11-11.5 with my normal driving at 55-65.
I put about 170 miles on before I filled up. About 100 miles of that was 70-75mph and most of that was loaded with about 400-500lbs. About 20 miles was city driving and the rest was 55-65mph. There was also 1 burnout in there
(btw it now does burnouts on dry pavement lol).
I averaged 11.5 mpg on this 1/2 tank and I do have the 5.9 in my truck. I have no doubt that under my normal driving I will get over 12. At 70-75 mph the truck turns approximately 2400-2500 rpm which is absolutely fine for the engine and I actually prefer because the engine doesn't feel like it's being lugged along at lower speeds.
I was planning on stepping up to 35" tires but we may be purchasing a camper and I'd rather have a better take-off ratio than bigger tires, so I will be sticking with 33" tires now.

With your current tire size (285/75) 4:10 would be the best choice. However, 4:56 would give you more torque off the line but would also raise your rpms to about 2650 on the HWY at 75. If your ever plan to go up a tire size to 35" or larger get 4:56's. If not id go with the 4:10's.
If your trans is functional and you have lockup and everything, skip 4.10s, not worth the cost. RPM increase is minor and the benefits are great. I just finished breaking mine in and it's hard not to hammer it everywhere because of the new-found power.
As for mileage, I haven't had enough highway driving to say that for sure and haven't tested enough for hard numbers city. Previously on 3.55s I would get 17-18 on open road, no wind, 63mph. About 9ish in town. I can tell already that city mileage has gone up though. I've been driving around all week and have 300-ish miles of about 50/50 highway/city on it and maybe 20ish gallons used. Again, not hard numbers but rough idea. Curious to see highway mileage. I'm 1000 miles from home right now so we'll see when I head back in august (yeah 1000 miles from home and said "think I'll have my gears done now!")

So i flip-flop on what this truck will actually be doing. I just got back into riding and got another dirt bike and a quad for the MRS so I plan on getting a small travel trailer (between 2,000-2,700 pounds). I also plan on going to a five inch lift and doing 35"s on 17's. So if i go that route should i still get 4.56 gears? If 4.56 make the RPMS higher and I have to tow with overdrive off i would assume my RPMS would be at 3-3500 while towing and that cant be good.

with 35's and 4.56's you'll probably want to tow at 60 mph or even 55mph. This will keep your rpm's at 3k or under. Our trucks are by no means fuel efficient. So expect 8-9 mpg while towing. The 5" lift will kill your fuel economy too (****ty aerodynamics) but makes it fun while 4 wheeling!
