Default 97 Ram 1500 5.9 CODE 11

Hi, got a 97' 1500 4x4 Ram that I've been recently getting code 11. I know what the code is and have tried the following:

- replace HEP or Cam Sensor at the distributor
- replace plugs, cap, wires, and rotor
- cleaned and polished all grounds, including battery terminals
- trickle charged battery to full
- battery tested and alt tested fine

symptoms: while driving, truck simply dies. it will die at any speed or at a stop abruptly. Truck will not start as I don't believe code 11 has a limp in. only way to get restarted is pulling negative battery for a bit to reset computer, and sometimes resetting ECU doesn't work, have to reset multiple times. Even had trouble resetting ECU w/ my code reader that I have.

Any help would be much appreciated. been at this for over a week and can't trust it as it stall unexpectedly at any time thus leaving me w/ really no brakes or steering making it very dangerous.

Replace the crank position sensor. It's behind the passenger side head.

Thanks, thought about that, but thought I'd see if there was any further trouble shooting before I start throwing sensors at it. I replaced the crank sensor back in 2011 for similiar issues w it idling and dying frequently when I let the throttle off, but she'd restart w/ no problem back then and no code 11. I replaced every sensor known, and the AIS was the last and finally fixed it. Is there a way to test the crank sensor before I throw $50 dollars at it?

Drive it till it dies, then check and see if you are getting spark.

What brand crank sensor did you put in last time around? These trucks tend to not be real friendly with the aftermarket sensors......

Yeah, that explains a lot.

Get one from the dealer. Yeah, they are significantly more expensive, but, they actually work, and last longer.

Well, went to the dealer and bought a MOPAR sensor this time. Cost me $100. As usual, wasn't looking forward to changing this one as it a real PITA. Drove it around for about 15-20 minutes and seemed ok. I'll keep a close eye on it, hopefully this won't die again and this has fixed the problem.

thanks again for the help!
