Default oil pressure

I'm having an issue with my oil pressure. After warming up my truck (2001 Dodge ram 1500 with 360) the oil pressure would drop to zero and when i would rev it up the oil gauge would go up so I replaced the sending unit and now it just reads zero no matter if I rev it up. I decided to purchase an oil pressure testing system. The pressure at idle is at around 10 psi and at 2500 its reads at 40. What should it be reading I have no clue

You may want to add what weight oil is in it and are you reading it while hot or cold.

I'm running 10w 30. When I first started the truck the gauge read around 50 then slowly dropped. The picture you at 10 psi is when the truck is warmed up( about 25 mins of running at idle)

Verify pressure with a mechanical gauge.

I'm sorry I should have put that the reading is from a mechanical, I removed the oil sending unit because after I installed the new sending unit it wasn't reading anything so I then used the mechanical oil pressure testing kit and thats where the reading is coming from

Supposedly, anything over 10psi at idle, and then another 10PSI/1000 RPM is 'acceptable'..... Personally, I think 10 at idle is too low. I would be tempted to drop the pan, check the pickup, (they have a rather small opening, and clog fairly easily) and see what ya got. Replacing the pump and pickup really isn't that bad of a job, and the 100 bucks you might spend doing it, is still FAR cheaper than another motor.

I was thinking the same thing heyyou. I also have to figure out way the factory gauge only shows zero since I put a new sending unit in.at least with the old sending unit the gauge would go up if i reved it

Bad right out of the box. Not as unusual as we would like to think.
