That leaves the steering box itself. It's the only other part left. Assuming, that is, that nothing is binding in the steering itself.

When chasing my wander and loose steering, I started at the bottom price-wise and went up with all new parts. Turns out, the most expensive part was the culprit: the steering gear. Made it all perfect again. Of course, it took three trips and two gears from Redhead but it's finally good to drive again.

Not in my universe it isn't. I bought a Tracker once without consulting the Boss. I spent the entire next year praying nothing went wrong or I'd never hear the end of it. I survived but have no desire to repeat the experience.

Did you put in a Redhead?

If not, you haven't fixed the problem.

And find better "shops."

Well, they are a lot cheaper than a rack and pinion conversion!

Good grief, they're only $400 or so. You've wasted at least that taking it to shops I bet. So be patient and save up. I waited 10 years for my Redhead.

I agree with ramman18. Sounds like bad pump flow to me. Higher rpms increases 1 thing, pump/flow to rack and pinion or steering box. Depending on what you have. Low rpms mean would result in low pump pressure, making it harder to turn while not moving.

The 35s dont help the fact that your pump isnt pumping enough fluid to turn the tires. Just makes the sympton feel worse. I had a similar issue with mine and changed the fluid and tightened the worm gear adjuster on top. So far its Been alot better ! And even got rid of my pump whine, but that for me is just a short term fix.
