Default Quick Question...

How long does it typically take a V10 to warm up?

Mine is taking forever and on cold mornings it takes even longer. I changed the t-stat with a 195 unit when I changed the radiator and suspect I got a dud.

I would plug in with a scanner, and see if the temp gauge is simply lying.

In my opinion, it does take a little longer than say a small car. The gauge seems to read on the lighter side also. If your truck has the trailer towing package, that could be a factor also. A scanner will verify it all though.

My 318 shows well beyond the halfway point on the temp gauge. Scanner shows it at 188. So it's possible for the dash to read wrong.

Thanks guys. I'll take my scanner with me the next trip out to see what the computer is seeing. I've suspected an issue with the gauge because, in my opinion, if it was not warming up the computer would be having kittens by now.

The older trucks don't seem to be as **** about engine temp as the 98 and up fellers.......

It's getting into the 180s without a load. I had to take the camper in for service and it stayed in the low 190s on that run so I'm not going to worry about it unless it gets where I start having more issues. The capacity of the cooling system is large enough that I guess it takes a bit to get it all warmed up. Once is warmed up, it's staying 188 - 192 range.

I guess I'm still adjusting to a drivetrain engineered to be worked hard.
