1998 dodge ram 1500 5.9 automatic, when cold the truck starts up perfectly, but if i drive somewhere and everything warms up then shut the truck off for 10 minutes or so it starts but cranks for about 8 seconds. after cranking for a little time it fires up instantly and runs fine. while cranking it sounds almost like the battery could die but i have put a new one in and it still does the same thing.

 

Get it nice and warm, and go to your local parts store, and have them do a starter draw test. See if that shows anything interesting.
