Okay so i have a 1997 ram 1500, with the 5.9 and its 4x4. It starting acting like it was slipping and it wont shift. Now im trying to figure out if a trans out of any other year would work or if it has to be from a 97. I thought as long as it had the 5.9 it would bolt right in but someone told me the 97 was a one year thing

 

For some things, the 97 is kind of an odd duck, but, basically, any trans from a 96 to 99 truck will bolt right in, hook right up, and should work just fine. (assuming it worked fine before.....) 00 to 02 will work, if you change the electronics in the trans, to match the year of your truck. Need to retainer clip for the governor stuff as well.

95 and older transmission won't work at all. They are completely different in how they function.

Sweet! i know a guy that has a 94 and 99 that hes parting out and i was hoping one of them would be able to bolt right in, thanks for the reply!

 

my truck did same thing I grounded the pink wire coming out of the pcm. It now shifts.
