5.9L magnum vs. 5.7 Hemi
This may not be the appropriate L place to post this thread, but....
I have a 1997 1500 4x4 with a 5.9L magnum 360 c.i.d.
My brother has a 200? With a 5.7L hemi.
He has had issues, not irregular, but jeez less than120,000 had coolant (head and gasket) problems, due to time snd expense he had a guaranteed used engine swapped in.
Just wondering if the 5.7 hemi as durable a truck engine as the tried tested and PROVEN 5.9?

The hemi has it's own issues, but, still and all, there are folks out there in the world with well over 200K on their hemi. From what I have seen, exhaust manifold bolts breaking seems to be the biggest complaint, and looking at the manifold design, I suspect that could be 'cured' by just putting shorties on, instead of the stock manifold.
The hemi sure does put out more power, more efficiently than the old magnum engines though......

You're right, this is definitely not in the right section (*cough* General Section material *cough*)
That being said, it depends on what year 5.7L he has. I have had no problems with my 5.7L aside from a normal maintenance item needing attention (fan clutch, water pumps, and tensioner). I've used it to haul 3,700-lbs of scrap metal and also a partially stripped down Allis Chalmers WC. The Allis was really tricky because it took a bit to get up to speed, and even then I didn't dare exceed 60mph on the Interstate. Dodge had issues with the Hemi from 2003 through 2006. I've heard of the "Hemi tick", the exhaust bolts breaking, and a few other issues.

You have the 5.7, 6.1, 6.2, 6.4. 5.7 and 6.4 were truck engines. The 6.1 and 6.2 came in the srt chargers and challengers. Now they are coming out with the viper V-10 and making it a Hemi. Which they said will be offered in the HD trucks and they say it will be very close to the diesel with torque.
