Default 98 Ram 2500 5.9L over heating issues

hey everyone new here. Trying to figure out why my truck continues to over heat after installing a new thermostat. Has new water pump also. Temps will nearly reach the red zone before the needle will plummet to the 195 range. No in cab heat either. Any suggestions?

Air pockets in the cooling system. The major ones should eventually work themselves out, after the thermostat cycles a couple times. As for the heater..... you are either still low on coolant, or, you have an air pocket there too.... they are notoriously hard to get all the air out.

If there is air in the system, driving up and down steep hills can help. I like to drill a tiny hole in the thermostat surround to help let air pass thru.
