Default Are all second gen rears interchangeable?

I have a 98 15004x4 I need a rear. I was wondering if I can put any 2nd gen rear in it. I know i need to match the 3,55 gears. My question is more about the speed sensor in the 98 housing. Do the earlier (94-97) trucks use the same housing? Ive been getting conflicting info about it. Thanks everyone for the input

Yeah, they all have the same sensor. Some of the bolt sizes may change over the years, but, aside from that, all the half-ton axles are pretty much the same.

Welcome to DF!

They all used that sensor. The older trucks just used if for ABS, the newer trucks eliminated the VSS on the tailhousing of the trans (or t-case, depending on number of drive wheels) and used the the sensor on the rear diff for vehicle speed as well.
