Default 2001 Ram 1500 running very rough

Just changed the crank sensor and truck fired up and ran fine. Once warmed up it started running very rough and skipping. It actually blew my muffler and had a severe lack of power. Any ideas of where to look next?

What brand crank sensor did you install?

I am not sure. It was done at a garage. I sent it to a friend because I can't fit it in my own garage without removing the cap. I can't check with him until Monday but I would bet it isn't an OEM sensor. I had a 17 mile ride home and it started acting up about half way home after warming up to operating temp.

Replace the sensor with an OEM unit. These trucks are notorious for not playing well with aftermarket sensors.

I will have him change it out and see if that does it. Thanks for your input

I will do that. I just went out and grabbed the bill and he put in MasterPro part from Oreilly Auto Parts. It blew the muffler right off the truck

Another question is would it run rough warmed up and then when cooled down run OK again until warmed up because the crank sensor wasn't compatible?

Yes. In fact, that is one of the symptoms of a sensor the PCM doesn't like.
