Key won't turn after trying to jump start
#11
Checked out the steering column, no issues, of course I looked rather silly when my friend got up here to give me a hand and the key turned fine for him (of course), but got stuck again. Seems like there was some dust in the ignition lock cylinder or something like that, cleared it out and 8/10 times key turns fine, it IS old, so it'll probably need to be replaced soon enough, but as for right now we got it to turn, and seems like frozen battery was likely cause of my issues yesterday morning, since today we finally got it to start after figuring out the key issue with a jump and letting it run to charge. Definitely weird timing for both to happen together though. But all is working (for now)

My understanding is a charged battery won't freeze because of the acid. As the battery goes dead, the stuff from the acid attaches to the battery plates leaving water in the case. The water then freezes and as the ice expands, busts the plates loose inside the battery. All batteries lose charge over time, especially if the battery is dirty. The dirt acts like a conductor, though a very poor one.

Most likely needs a new ignition tumbler, best to replace while it still turns because needs to be on to remove tumbler. Search on line for Dodge key won't turn, common problem on earlier Dodges with some miles on. Taping inward on key, while trying to rotate will usually solve problem. Check with a locksmith, it may be cheaper for him to repair/rebuild it, than to buy new tumbler from Chrysler, especially if you are going to have it recoded to your old key.
