Default 2001 dodge ram 1500 p0340

My check engine light has been on for months with p0601 for bad pcm well it started getting terrible gas milage months agoa and got to the point where it began running rough and you could smell gas like it was just dumping too much gas. Replaced pcm and now when i start it up the code p0340 comes on? Could this have been from how it was acting before? Any ideas on what all i should look at or replace? Any info would help thanks!

p0340 Camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction.

Might be bad wiring, might be bad sensor, might be bad PCM..... you can check the wiring, maybe replace the sensor, and see if that clears it up. Best figger it out before the warranty on the PCM runs out.

Yeah, that's generally a fatal flaw...... Memory error in the PCM.

Could the pcm being bad and the way it smelled and seemed to be dumping gas and idiling erratic caused that sensor to eventaully malfunction?

If you are getting the 601, ignore everything else until that one is solved.
