I did before just a few minutes ago so the engine is still warm but I just went out there again now the dipstick is saying theres none in it so I guess I didn't give it enough time to settle in the transmission ? I already used 5 quarts how much more do I need ? thats all I got. how long do I need to wait to let the fluid reach the transmission before I check it again ? I was just sitting out there and checking every 5 minutes or so with the engine running.

How long have you had the pan off? It may take a little more if its been sitting and dripping for a while. just keep adding about a half quart at a time and move the gears selector through the gears slowly after adding some till you get some engagement going on. . as soon as you get some gears, put back in neutral and check dipstick. In between adding some, wait a few minutes before adding more because if the fluid in the filler tube has not settled, it will give you a false reading in thee stick. If you get to 6.5- 7 quarts and no gears happening, I would be concerned. Especially if you still hearing gurgling. (I've never heard gurgling while filling a trans back up. )

thanks for the reply. she's moving again. I added that last quart but still need another good 3-4 quarts. I drove her around the corner only going 10 mph to get it through some gears and she's shifting but obviously needs more fluid. one problem though is the pans leaking. one of the threads is stripped because one of the bolts itsn the right size so before I popped the pan back on I tried to find the hole it went in and it won't tighten. its dripping in two corners. ****. please don't tell me I need a whole new pan and bolts. I just put the pan back up.

I think the factory bolts are 5/16. Can you get an 8mm self-tapper at a local hardware store? 5/16 = 7.9375 mm, so an 8 should be just enough larger to cut thread (in addition to being different pitch) without being too big to fit the hole in your pan.

5/16s refers to the size of the threaded portion of the bolt.

sorry I'm testing your guys patience lol. with the self tapper do I need to drill the thread first or will it catch without it ?
