97 Ram shifting issues
Hey all,
I have a 97 ram 2500 HD 5.9 gas with the 46re tranny and just about to hit 200k miles, Just put a new motor in the truck after a blown piston, Went for a test drive and it wont shift into gears unless i hold throttle down in that gear and mash the transfer case gear selector back and forth from top to bottom, then as soon as i let off gas it goes back like its in neutral . It was fine last night but this morning i get nothing. ( last night it was acting funny as not shifting when it should be as well as having to put it in gear a few times before it caught ) Ive already replaced the governor and pressure switch, When i did that the magnet in the trans pan did have alot of fine metal partials on it. Am i looking at a trans rebuild here or maybe t-case? Only codes I get is from an o2 sensor thats not plugged in as well as a random misfire code for cyl 6 and 8. Anyone have any ideas?

If you have already gone after the electronics, then yep, it's rebuild time.
You have a new motor, but are stilling getting misfire codes? That's something else you really need to address.

Feared having to rebuild it but guess it'll have to be done. Its not a new new motor but a fully rebuilt one, kinda strange but hopefully something simple. Really annoying spending all that time pulling it and putting another one in and having a misfire, being 6 & 8 maybe a blown gasket, only time shall tell.
Of course i checked the fluid :P little over the max line on the dipstick. shes got plenty of fluid
