Default 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 series 5.2 318 VG.

I have been having this problem for a year now. When it's cold the truck spits and sputters until it reaches 200 degrees and then it drives like a dream. I have replaced both o2 sensors tps air control sensor. Temperature sensor. New cat converter. Anyone have any suggestions?

Find someone with a scanner to go for a ride while it's spitting and sputtering. Also what brand sensors did you install? BWD are garbage.

Default It got Bosch.

Today check engine light came on my scanner shows p1391 loss of crank and cam. I can't see how that would cause it to run like crap until it hits 200 degress. After it gets to temp it drives and purs like a kitten...

Crank senses might be going bad...

Everyone says buy Mopar as these trucks hate aftermarket. I haven't replaced it on my Ram yet but my 1st Gen Durango (5.9 back when I first got it 2 years ago) I replaced the crank sensor with an aftermarket one and it worked. But take this warning into consideration.

That didn't fix the problem.... decided to replace both the cam and crank sensor this morning.... started it up the check engine light is off, but still spits and sputters until it hits 200 degrees and then drives perfect. Starting to really get aggravating at this point. Anyone else have anymore suggestions??

So I'm not saying these are the problems. I'm just throwing some ideas out there for you and the other guys.

When's the last time you did a full tuneup? Rotor, cap, wires, plugs? What brand?

Have you ever done a plenum plate fix on that truck?

Think I would try running it with the front O2 sensor unplugged, and see if the behavior changes.
