Angry Dana 60 posi unit with no tone ring provision?

I'm trying to install a new 30 spline Dana 60 power loc unit into a 2001 Dana 60 HD rear housing, but finding that the new Dana 60 power loc unit does not have a provision to install the tone ring. Has anyone run into this before and what can be done to rectify this issue short of getting a Dana 60 power loc unit with a tone ring provision? Also, what would I be losing if I don't install the tone ring? My truck is an early model 1996 Ram 2500 4x4 with rear ABS that I'm planning to install this Dana 60 HD into (since it has rear disc brakes) - I guess I would expect to get some sort of ABS check light, but wondering if anything else is affected by this issue. Thoughts?

You will have no ABS that is it which will set the ABS and BRAKE light that's weird the 2001 doesn't have a tone ring...

The original open carrier in the 2001 Dana 60 HD has a tone ring. Unfortunately, the new 30 spline Dana 60 Power lock unit I purchased is for non-ABS Dana 60 housings and I didn't realize it until I went to get things installed. It seems they make the 30 spline Dana 60 power lock units in either ABS vs non-ABS flavors.

You may be able to use this. Might need to modified and welded on.???

I would swap the carrier for the correct one..... maybe..... not like the rear wheel abs on these trucks actually does any good..... could just disable the abs system altogether....

If the powre lock housing won't fit the ring, don't weld anything, you'll mess up the side to side adjustment ratio...also effecting proper backlash and ring to pinion gear contact pattern. Better to leave the ring gear out or replace the carrier with the proper one.

Unfortunately, looks like I need to pick up the correct power lock carrier if I want the tone ring in place. I spoke with my rear end setup guy and he's saying the same thing.

Hope sharing this information makes others aware that they make ABS and non-ABS versions of the posi units for these rears to save others from the pain I'm experiencing.

Well, I'm not done yet. Looks like I might be able get my Dana 60 power lock carrier modified to accept the tone ring. After visiting with my rear end setup guy, it appears that the outer edge of the carrier that the ring gear bolts to would need to be turned down slightly and a notch cut into it. I know a few machinists with large lathes and skills that may be able to take care of this issue. Stay tuned.

Will that void the warranty on the carrier though?

What warranty? I bought the power lock unit off an eBay seller (who had it sitting on his shelf for who knows how long) last year and finally got around to getting the gears setup on it recently. I'm kinda stuck with it, so I might as well use it if one of my machinist friends can work their magic.
