Default Trailer light connection

Hi All,

Where can I find a trailer light diagram? The previous owner jacked up all the wiring. I got both turn signals and the lights to work. But once I press the brakes the lights go off. I'm sure this has been asked before but any google search didn't do me any good. 1998 1500 Laramie.

Thanks,

Have the service manual for your truck yet? If not, download one from the thread in the faq/diy section.

Can I tell that from pulling up the VIN? I just had the old hitch rust off the truck with my dad's new pontoon attached on the highway, fun times, and I am trying to get everything back together for a UHaul since I am looking for a house.

HeyYou I will pull up the service manual and see if that helps.

Thanks guys!

have you checked to make sure the trailer connector has a good ground? i would maybe even double check to make sure you got the connector wired properly. you could use either a test light or a multi meter to do so. test every wire 1 at a time. if it is all wired right at the connector it is possible the issue you were having might have been with the trailer.

Thanks for the help. I will try to take another look at it sometime this week. Hopefully I can get a picture to show you guys what I am dealing with. There is a whole bunch of splicing from whoever owned the truck before.

I also has a typo on the VIN: 3B7HF12Z8WM221810

Heavy Duty Service Group
Trailer Tow Group
Heavy Duty Engine Cooling
P265/75R16 OWL On/Off Road Tires (and 3.55 gears)

So it's pretty much set up as a tow vehicle.
