Truck wouldn't start, had towed in, now starts fine
Drove truck to local Menard's store and all was fine, no sign of problems. Went in and when I came out truck started, but shook and barely would run, missing out and shaking like crazy, finely just died. Now I know it is full of gas, just filled it the day before. Gas gauge stopped working over a year ago, I just go by miles driven. Yellow gas light has still worked to let me know if it is really low on fuel. Coasted to an empty parking space and truck would start and run so rough, it wouldn't move when put in gear. Finely, it would turn over great, but would not even fire. Called AAA and had it towed to repair shop.
Later in day, repair shop tried starting it up and it started fine and is running just great! He put a pressure tester on and plenty of fuel pressure. Said there haven't been any codes thrown to look at. Does anyone have any ideas on what problem could be.

That is always a possibility, I went out and talked to the guy I am having look at it. I only got one more free tow and I have some problems walking, so don't want to get stuck out somewhere. The fuel pressure was running a steady 48 pounds, he said it had been running a couple hours. Shut it off and let sit awhile and still started up as nothing wrong. He said the jerking around of loading the truck on tow truck could have shook something loose in fuel pump and got it working. Said he has got a stuck fuel pump going by using a rubber mallet banging on bottom of tank.
Then like someone already said, I would have leaned toward cam or crank sensor, something electrical. If it was crank sensor, I could have laid down on back and worked on that myself.
Oh well, I know the fuel gauge hasn't worked for years, so I will get that whole unit replaced and if nothing else I will have a fuel gauge next time I get stuck somewhere. Instead of dropping the tank, he said he will just take the bed off truck, I thought that strange, but I known him for a long time and he does good work. Usually I would do most stuff myself, but can only stand for a little while and then mostly on one leg. They did a CT scan last month and are making me a new ankle now. Getting an ankle replacement is going to really suck, after the surgery you have to stay laying down with ankle above heart for 23 hours a day, for 4 - 6 weeks. I am going to just go -------- nuts!
I am not too positive this will fix problem of why it wouldn't start in Menards parking lot.

Had the pump unit replaced and been going fine for a little over 100 miles. Even went and parked in the same spot where it quit and all was okay. So hopefully it was really the fuel pump? Fuel gauge now works, but I didn't really care about that working. I don't ever remember hearing the old pump running, but I can sure hear this new one while truck is idling. Can hear it sitting inside with window down, so got under truck right by tank and that is what I am hearing. Maybe now I am just listening more, but I don't think so. Whenever I start or stop any vehicle, I always listen so I know if anything is out of the ordinary.

He would have got it from Oreilly or CarQuest, is that bad, I use to get stuff from them? Maybe they are not the best, last time I went to Oreilly's I wanted Wagner ceramic brake pads and all they were carrying were their Master Pro. Guess I should pay more attention. Lately I been letting this guy I know who took over running a shop he use to work in do my stuff. Would like to see him make a go at running his own business. Is it unusual to hear the pump running?
Haha, you're not superstitious now are you? (Parked in same place to see if it did the same thing) That's something I would do!
All parts from parts stores are junk. J. U. N. K. It's louder because it's chinese junk.
You might get a couple months or even years out of that pump but nowhere near what the factory put in.
