98 Transfer case on a 96?
Will a 98-01 Transfer case fit a 96 and work? Same engine so the shafts should be the same. Only reason I'm asking is I'm putting a full center console out of a 4th gen ram in my truck and it has the "older" shift pattern where you have to push to the side to get to N and 4L. Where the newer transfer cases in one straight line. Thanks for the input guys! Sorry for all the weird questions (I think it will personally but want to be sure) but I want they custom interior!
Its not so much the shift pattern that is the issue, its the lack of the VSS on the tailhousing that will be a problem. 98 didn't have one..... 97 and older need it for the speedometer, etc.
Could you transfer the tail housing from the 96 tcase to the 98?
I don't think the drive gear is on the output shaft of the newer t-case either. You *might* be able to put one on, if the splines are there, otherwise, I think you would need to swap that shaft as well.
Ah not to hard. I always get the "mut" trucks. But for $400 I can't complain. I am just seeing what wiring is needed to use the rest speed sensor instead of the one on the trans.
Im just worried that when I switch to the new dash and fuse box from an 01 that the speedo won't work.

I used this box from Dakota Digital to make the speedo work in my 97 cab and 98 undercarriage. It should work for what you're trying also.

It also makes it nice for changing tire sizes. Push a button and set it where it should be.
