As was said before, go ahead and install a new oil pump. Pack it with grease before you install it. Then on initial startup, pull the coil wire until you show oil pressure while cranking, then hookup the coil wire and fire it up. A new sender is a good idea, I like to remove the old one, then crank engine to clear any crud out of the port before I install a new one.
My truck, when I got it, always had low oil pressure, no noises. I've made quite a few long distance highway runs, done about 4 oil changes. I run about 6k between changes. Now it stays rock solid at 40psi at idle. Haven't changed any parts.. Gotta add a quart every now and again....dang intake....

Old trick, helps the pump to prime. Some people just flood them with oil, that works too... Never spin an oil pump dry.

Indeed. I usually use white lithium grease. Not as heavy as the wheel bearing stuff. Easier to pump. (and works just as well.)

When was the last time anyone here reprimed their oil pump after draining their oil? You folks realize every time you change your oil, you drain the oil from the oil pan, effectively draining the oil pump...rite?!?!?

That's true, but, when you REMOVE the oil pump, there is no oil above it either..... it doesn't hurt anything to prime it, and it is required when installing a new one.

Dang, you beat me to it........ I used to work on hi-po motorcycle engines. I've seen some nasty oil pumps.......

It's amazing how much abuse an oil pump will take until it fails. But when it does.............BOOM!!

The truck blew up over the weekend on my way to the gas station. Hole straight out of the oil pan.
