I appreciate you answering the question. I'm like round trip 50 miles from nearest auto parts store. I would like to have all my ducks in a row. Don't want to make 3 or 4 trips to get it right.

Anyway I can help! That's what this forum is for. The only reason I recommend this check valve over the original designed ones that you can get for like $5 at Napa is it has a mini reservoir in it also. And therth what I like about it.

My plenum was leaking bad. I was using tons of oil. The check valve fixed it even with the very leaky plenum. Later I fixed the plenum but the check valve was the cause of the wacky vents.

Before adding the vacuum reservoir did your cruise control work? Could you shift into 4 wheel drive? Have you replaced the checkvalve? When I pulled my old check valve out, I could blow through it easily in either direction. (in fact you could see daylight through it) Mine was where it had a "T" near the back of the valve cover on the passenger side of the vehicle.
Cruise, 4wd, everything worked. The factory check valve was still good. I suspect that one of the actuators is leaking, and the reservoir gives it enough reserve to stay functioning

V65Ozzie, When I had the wacky vents it would switch to the right position at idle. (when the vacuum pressure is the highest) As I would accelerate, it would go from the middle vents to the floor and if I gave it gas long enough it would switch to the defrost vents. I might be wrong it may have been middle at idle then defrost, then the floor. Something like that. The checkvalve was really bad. (the one right off the intake manifold) I could actually see daylight through it. Changing that one check valve fixed it for me. (with a terrible plenum leak) I found the second one thanks to people on here and changed it as well. I didn't really see much difference. It may switch to the desired vents a little quicker or maybe that is the placebo effect playing tricks on me. I hope you can track it down. If that additional reservoir fixes it then maybe you don't have to worry about it.

All my check valves were in good shape, tested with a vac guage. There may be an issue with the factory reservoir, but I was looking for fast and cheap. Since installing this I have had zero issue with my vents, and once I actually get around to doing my intake it will probably stay on.
