Usually the new models come out in the fall. I'd say yours is a 98.5

Not quite... they're a blend of 98 and some early introduction 99 parts... I think there are even some of those early 99 parts that changed again by the time the 99 was released... that's why it was a half year model, and didn't wait for the next year.
98½ is a crap-shoot as to what does and doesn't fit.

Like what? This is the first mention of 98.5 "model year" outside of the 12v to 24v Cummins switch on this or any dodge forum. All 98s I've ever seen had pull switch for headlight, airbag switch in the cubby, and 12volt above and a black LCD odometer. What other changes/parts were changed before 99?

The 98 sport models didn't get the quad headlamps either, that came in 98.5, along with the sport bumper, etc.

Right, but they came out in the middle of 98 as 99 models. There's no 99 Sports labeled as 98s anywhere. My truck was built in April of 99 but if it was June it would be a 2000. Or maybe a 99 and 7/8ths.
