Default 318 5 speed manual

I would like to know what is the toughest 5 speed manual transmission dodge/Chrysler ever bolted to a 318? Preferably one that doesn't need any electronics. I want to put this combination in to an old Jeep J10. It currently has an AMC 360 with a three speed automatic but I want better fuel econamy, so I can actually afford to drive it. I know I might have the wrong forum. If so could you direct me to something more suitable please? I just thought for 5 speed manual and a 318 this might be a good place to start.

NV4500. I don't think they ever actually came behind the 318, but, they DID come behind the 360. Basically the same engine, just a bit more displacement.

There are alot better aftermarket transmissions out there that hold alot more torque and horsepower than a stock transmission.

I'd give these guys a call and see what they would recommend.

That's true, but, they are big bucks too. The NV4500 will last a LONG time behind a 318.
