Default Rear Brake Conversion is this possible

1996 Ram 1500 4WD
I need to do my rear brakes (drums) and am thinking of maybe converting to rear Disc .
Can I use the rear disc assemblies from a 3rd Gen Ram to do the conversion.
The custom conversion kit is around $600 and I can pick up a complete rear end from a junk yard for around $200
and was wondering if swapping the the Disc assemblies is possible.
My truck has the Corporate 9.25 LD rear axle.

There are a couple threads on this... at least one is *relatively* recent. Don't recall what the conclusion was though.

I'm not finding anything that actually comes to a conclusion, I could possibly not be using the correct search terms though.

I'm in the process of swapping a 2001 Dodge Dana 60 disc brake rear into my 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4. I hope to complete the swap within the next month, as long as the rains hold up a bit. I'll be glad to let you know how it goes.

I honestly can't see why it's not possible. Just measured the leafs they are the same width, the U joints look the same.
