Default Engine making a ticking noise

bought a 1996 dodge 2500 5.9 engine had been parked for over 5 years. I replaced the fuel pump and got it going was working fine on cold start for a week or so. Now every time I start it off from a cold start there’s a tapping sound coming out of the engine on the driver side from the back of the engine. I have not driven it or have I moved it since I bought it wasn’t going to move it until I fixed all the brake lines but now I’m scared to turn it on due to that tapping sound. Any suggestions as what it could be. Thank you in advance

How loud? How far down in the engine does it sound like it is? Oil level good? Pressure? How old is the filter?

And the big question becomes, why was it parked for five years?

Welcome to DF!

I sounds like right by where the tire is and it sounds like someone tapping with a hammer. The oil hasn’t been changed out. Still using the same oil from when I bought it off the guy. But the pressure is good, and it was parked because the man I bought it from didn’t have the money to fix it when his fuel pump went bad and well I came across it and bought it off of him for 200$

Change the oil. See what happens. Even if it is rod knock, you can throw another motor at it, and still come out ahead.

Sounds exactly like how my motor went, bought it for 800, went smooth for a week, then baam rod knock, was even coming from the driver side tire. Do you have a video of the sound?
If it helps, here is how mine sounded, I blew a rod through the oil pan about a month and a half later:

*Link Removed* Engine Conditioner has helped us quiet "tapping" or some knocking. It dissolves all the sludge, allows the oil to flow freely and at the correct pressure, lowers operating temperature and improves performance.

That's a pretty heavy price at 150
