Default How to clean out CAT permanently

So, my sons 97 Ram 5.2 has a broken/clogged CAT, rattles really loud inside, any advice on how to gut it? Looks like we will have to unbolt the exhaust from the manifolds, cut the pipe close to the second 02 sensor to get it out from under the truck, but that leaves a lot of pipe to get something inside to clean out the remnants of the internals. Not looking to replace it right now, just gut it and get it back on the road for now, may replace with a new one later on.

Not looking for a diagnosis, It is definitely a bad CAT, but the symptoms are lack of power, only will get up to about 40, exhaust seems muffled, P0300 multiple cylinder misfire. Has anyone gutted their CAT? If so what is the best way to do it?

Thanks in advance.

Cut the pipe at the exit of the cat. Stick a crow bar, piece of pipe or other suitable item inside the cat and start breaking it up. Start the truck every now and then to blow it all out. Repeat until nothing else comes out. Reattach the pipe.

Well, I cut the exhaust, pulled the CAT and hammered it all out. Hollowed CAT installed with straight pipes now, and it runs great, no more misfire codes, no more lack of power.

Wouldn't that throw a check engine light though?

If it has a downstream O2 sensor, yes. But I don't think the OP really cared about that.

How do you eliminate the downstream O2 sensor? I want to do this myself
