I have a 1997 Ram 1500 that my hood latch is stuck, any suggestions on how to get it to release?

 

Is the cable just stretched out? If so, grab it with a pair of pliers, and pull it a bit more.

Happened to mine too. you need enough extensions to reach it from behind the bumper. Take out two bolts and the hood will open. Put a towel on the latch when you release it because that spring will fire it straight up, I found that one out in an exciting way. On mine it was the bar that attaches to it from the release on the bottom of the grille had the plastic piece break, I wrapped it up with some wire and put a hose clamp on it.
