The first number is how many gears it has, in this case 4. The second number is the "strength" of the transmission and how much HP and TQ it can handle in this case 6. Dodge rated them and we don't know exactly how much it can handle. You need at least a 46 in your Ram as it's a heavy vehicle
This truck had the 42 when I got it a year ago.It had been parked for 4 years behind a garage I gave 500.00 for it thinking if anything a project truck put battery change trans fluid adjusted bands and drove it out then week ago started acting funny
Sorry about that got in it next day no reverse then no overdrive though don't have time or money to do much started looking around for replacement hard to come by around my neck of the woods that's were the 4yre comes in found one in wreaking yard hour away from home got it thinking now will get this done then it became did the swap first thing got it up there and noticed 42 long tail drive line dam well get t case in and see how short I'll be went to to the t case and that when the stupid stick hit me cause I can't get it to go in the last 1/2 inch and here we are for the money lost in work time and tranny different t case I could of just did a rebuild and took a chance on learning that and hope for a good out come you see I am new at this and wanted to learn what it was about been a real head knocking lesson and it's not even done yet
