please help! I cant get the axle nut off of the drivers side of my 02 ram 2500 and when i did the ball joints on the passenger me and a couple guys were torching it getting it glowing and using the most powerful impact we had and it ended up stripping the threads off the nut and i had to replace the outer shaft, u-joint and the hub was seized too and i had to replace that. Ive already shocked everything a million times and im trying not to strip this nut too because i dont wanna spend the money on everything again. If anyone can help with any advice at all please anything helps. Im about ready to just say **** it and get rid of it because im done with this already and i can see having to spend the fortune on the drivers side as well.

 

If not already using a 6 point socket, it'd be a wise choice to get one to avoid stripping the nut.

If you haven't already, liberally apply penetrating oil to the nut and threads.

Have you tried using a "cheater bar" along with a breaker bar to give yourself more leverage?

 

I used a whole can of pb blaster letting it soak and the threads on the inside of the nut on the passenger side stripped out and ill see if i can get a 6 point. Do you kbow what size by any chance? Im just trying to make it as cheap as possible. I already have a new hub i just have to get the old one off and thats the hard part right now

 

What size are you using now?

The nut takes a 1 -11/16 socket, probably have to get a 3/4 drive breaker bar as well, as that size socket is too big for 1/2 drive. A long piece of pipe you can slip over the end of the breaker bar will work wonders at giving you leverage.

 

I gotta go out and get one, im using a 1-3/4 because another forum said thats what they all were using and do you know where i could get a 1-11/16 6 point? I only find 12 points

I have a third gen 2500. But ran into the same thing on the passenger side. I used a 6ft. Breaker bar, no dice. It was just bending. A 1 inch impact finally got it off, with very little effort I just hit the trigger and they're laid the nut on the ground. Some wire brushing, and anti size for next time. And I torqued it to spec so hopefully it will come off next time with a little less effort. Good luck.

I took mine off a very rusty specimen with my ingersol rand 1/2 impact ( I think its a 2135 ). Hit any threads with a wire brush, then penetrating oil - wait a bit... then right off..

 

After spraying the nuts and exposed threads with plenty of PB Blaster and letting it sit awhile, I used a 1-11/16" 3/4" drive 12 point socket, 3/4" breaker bar and a long black iron pipe and that broke it loose.
