engine swap with wire harness
i have a 1994 1500 ram 4x4 5.2. i buoght a 1997 1500 2 wheel 5.9. i needed the engine i took all wires and engine out of 97 with computer and the entire harness. everything is easy to match except the tcc/od sensor wires. the 97 harness has 8 wire plug and the 94 has a three wire plug. is there a way to only use thr wires to activate the trans tcc/od solinoid ? i cant find an adaptor or a pin out anywhere online. what can i do to fix this ? any help is welcome thank you.
Can you re-use the transmission from the 1994 truck? I ask, as the transmission in 1997 is a 46RE and the transmission in the 1994 is a 46RH. The RE transmission is computer controlled, whereas the RH is not. RH electric controls are just the torque converter lockup and the overdrive engagement.
The PCM won't engage TCC, or O/D, since it won't be getting pressure signals from the trans. You would be better off using the 94 harness, and simply replacing the PCM, with one set up for the 5.9.

Or grab a pcm from a truck with a 5.9, and auto trans from the yard. (OBDI please.) The OBDII PCM is going to want inputs from sensors in the trans. If it doesn't get them, check engine light will be on, and you will never get o/d, or tcc. You will have a three speed auto, with no lockup converter.
To save cash, you might want to swap back to the '94 harness. If connections are not in the right place, you can swap back in the '94 intake and block your EGR valve (if you still have your old intake). I believe the 5.2 PCM will run your 5.9 motor until you can get an OBD1 5.9 PCM.

thanks guys i am changing the harness back to the 94, i believe my friend has a pcm for the 5.9 that is obd1 but either way harness need to go back to 94 . figures right? thanks for the help i will let you know when i get it right.
That should work. Just factor in the possibility of swapping the intake on the '97 motor to the '94 intake, as some of the sensors on the intake may be in different places, but that should do it.
thanks atomicdog bro. if thats all it would be i have the tools id move them or make the wires longer. i was wondering if the trans from the 97 would be able to be put in my transfercase but its 2 wheel drive . but it is every bit as long as my 4x4 trans. tail shaft looks at least 18 in long. but lets not open that can man. ha ha. my friend has worked on cars for about 35 years and he reminded me of something i read in the forum. on the 94 trans it can be manually activated with toggles . the only ground out the solinoids to activate them. as long as the rest works i can handle that. i still need to make my exhaust. my tail pipe is 5in. i have a 2.5 magnaflow 2 in 2 out muffler. i made some headers and im running 3in to the muffler. i need to make a crossover pipe for my upstream 02 sensor no biggie mig welder is good for that. that stupid plug on the trans is the only thing that got me. but before i change the harness back i already made my shift switches to try. wish me luck shooting in the dark with a blindfold on. hahaha.thanks for the reply.
