You could have damged the sensor when you removed the tranny, it should show a code right?

I was also told today that since a 318 engine is packed tight against the firewall(about an inch of clearance) that when I pulled the transmission, because I didn't support the engine that I might have cracked the distributor cap. But since we don't have electric in the garage, I will have to check it tomorrow. That could be all that is wrong and why it isn't fireing.
