Default Differences between gear oil - need help
So i accidentally put in 85w-140 gear oil in my front differential instead of 80w-90 that the service manual says is correct. Do i need to drain it and go get the 80w-90?????

Actually, 75w-90 is what goes in the front. But oil is oil. There's no clutch packs or valve bodies or lifters here. Gear against gear. I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Here in the service manual it says the front takes 80w-90

Meh, my Chilton says 75 front, 80 rear, but it's not that big of a deal. It's like putting in thicker engine oil.

It won't hurt a thing, I run 85w140 in all of my differentials, the thicker gear oil provides better protection and quiets it down some.

My 2001 calls for 75w140 in front and in the rear either 80w90 for standard use or 75w140 for heavy duty/ towing.

i wouldn't worry about it
