I personally would weld it never had luck with the clamps, they rot out then rattle

If there is a factory hanger that needs a rod welded to the pipe, I'll cut the old rod off and weld it to the new pipe. Otherwise I tend to just clamp it all together. Sometimes I'll weld two pipes together if they don't fit snug. On the current truck, I did weld the front pipe to the cat pipe, because the PO mangled it. I bought regular clamps last time, and they tend to rust. So recommend painting them with high temp paint, or get stainless versions. I like using clamps, because if I ever need to pull it down and move it for some reason - I can. If its welded, you're going to need to buy at least one new pipe - or use an extender.

Default trucks quiet

hi I'm new here my 2000 5.9 is straight piped with flotech headers and it's so quiet compared to my 02 Durango 5.9 with just a glasspack on it why would it be so much of a difference or is there something more sinister at play causing it to be quite a blockage in cat?

Well I went with the magnaflow 12256... 18 inch straight through muffler....I haven't installed it yet but I replaced air filter with a drop in spectre oiled air filter and cleaned up the throttle body and IAC valve.... and I can tell the difference in idle and acceleration already......so maybe the muffler will help acceleration a little more... I'm not looking for anything major... just a little more sound and air flow..thanks for all the input..

Yea...if it warms up even a little here... I'm gonna install the new muffler... I like the idea of the clamps and bands first instead of welding it right off the bat... like you said...ya never know...might want to take it apart and try a different set up... .. thanks brothers...

Roughly 3 months ago i switched from a flo-pro muffler that was roughly 16 inches long and sounded ok, but I wanted it louder. After flo-pro rusted out, I put a flowmaster 40 series on there (single in dual out) that's about 6-8 inches long and wow what a beefy difference. No drone in my cab at all, at least nothing that I consider bad. I like to hear the exhaust somewhat when cruising. I can still hold a conversation with the passenger just fine. Right about 2200 rpm is a nice sweet spot for acceleration tone. youtube flowmaster 40 on dodge's of your year.

Dang.. that sounds good... I haven't even been able to put mine on yet... too cold out... I'm anxious to hear how it sounds... maybe this weekend I'll just have to rough it out and do it regardless of the weather....

I installed the magnaflow muffler today... the old one seemed sorta loud and I thought the new one was gonna be too loud... it was actually quieter than the old one... hmmm... seems the old one had a good size whole. Funny!!!! But I do hear that low rumble they are famous for... not aggressive...no drone... whether I get increased HP or MPG I guess I don't care really after all.. I got a new muffler, and I did it myself with help from you guys on this forum..thanks... I didn't weld, used the factory hangers and bolted right up.... I cut the rear hanger off the tailpipe and grinded it down and the 24 inch turn down pipe I used

Magnaflow 12256 and 24 inch turn down

Rear/middle hanger cut off from factory tailpipe

Grinding, deburring and smoothing out cut hangar

Hanger ready for reinstall

fit right in... that I will get welded tomorrow... the other connections, I used clamps only and seems secure and no leaks.... I'll re check it later on..thanks again.
