Default Magnaflow muffler

Any suggestions on the best magnaflow muffler for my 99 ram 318? There are a lot of different models I've see... I don't need anything super loud, but semi loud and good flow... I like their straight through models and just would like to get some feedback... as always... thanks for any input...

If you want decent sound, get something chambered. In my experience, the "straight through" models are really nothing more than glass packs and they don't sound great.

If you're willing to consider a different brand, I've had friends with a flowmaster 44 on both the 5.2 and 5.9 magnum engines and I loved the way they sounded.

I decided to upgrade my exhaust system a few years ago to 3" from the converter on back. I'm using the following muffler and converter:
Dynomax UltraFlo Welded Muffler - 17233 (3" inlet and outlet) and Magnaflow Converter - 99047HM (dual 2" inlets, 3" outlet, front O2 sensor port)

This system works well. The muffler flows well and the sound is pretty quiet until the motor revs to about 2500 rpm and above.

Yea... that sounds good... I'm definitely not stuck on magnaflow and open to options... I want to start out with a muffler first and add onto that later... thanks again for the input.. if anybody else has any experience... please comment... thanks.

I started with a flowmaster 40 series on my Dakota. Thee was so much drone in the cab at cruising speeds yiu cojld not even talk to the person in the passenger seat without yelling. I switched to Magnaflow. Way less drone and still sounded amazing from the outside.

I've been using AP stainless mufflers for a while.... they aren't that loud and they are economical for stainless.

Oh yea... I checked the link out.... that's some nice stuff too. I've been hearing that the original one on our rams is just way too big and restrictive and unnecessary. I measured it and it is 34 inches long 7.5 inches wide and 8.5 inches tall... so there is a lot of room for any size I guess.... so is the 14, 18 or 20 inch the best..????

I’m using, and am happy with a 3” Magnaflow 12279 stainless steel muffler.

So, what do you plan to replace? Just the muffler? I like to use the catback kit, with dual exit under the bumper. Pipes are all mandrel bent (no wrinkles). You have to set it up carefully, since the factory didn't engineer for having two pipes, clearance between the underbed spare tire and the rear brake flex hose is a bit tight and there is no room to spare, have to keep manipulating the pipes until it just about perfect.

Have a look at pages 31-32
I just did web search on the parts and had them shipped in. It was under $200 for me to get everything (clamps, hangers, front pipe, etc) I needed and I installed.

$200 Ain't bad... for all that...I was planning to replace the muffler first and see how that feels... I had thought about just cutting the old one out and replacing it and splicing the pipes where needed and keeping the factory tailpipe. Mine exits to the right, (passenger side) just behind the rear wheel... stock setup. Yea.. I plan on installing it myself and my friend can weld the joints... but do they absolutely need to be welded or are clamps and bands good enough... ??? Thanks for listening to me..
